Job Description:
Position Summary:

The Deputy Director of the Office of Higher Education in Prison is a full-time, grant funded position that will further SUNY's goal of achieving fair and inclusive access to quality higher education for people who are currently and formerly incarcerated by supporting the Executive Director in executing all office activities and priorities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Organizational Strategy & Leadership

Proactively identify internal opportunities and challenges and work with the Executive Director to address them
Manage key projects and special initiatives that relate to organizational growth
Provide high-level input to inform staffing decisions related to growth, performance, and accountability
Provide leadership, support, and supervision to direct reports.
Reviewing and completing quarterly fiscal and operational reports and distribute per grant and project guidelines.

Program Development & Support

Support campuses in planning and development of new and existing programs
Provide technical assistance to campuses in the form of individualized meetings, assistance in implementing student supports, and relationship building with the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision
Conduct research to support campus expansion of programming inside jails and prisons across the state
Use student and program data across the SUNY system to identify strengths and opportunities in educational programs and pathways, and work with SUNY campuses to improve outcomes for incarcerated New Yorkers
Conduct sites visits to prisons and campuses
Support the development and maintenance of a community of practice across all SUNY campuses, while providing technical assistance to support campus programs

Policy & Advocacy

Work with SUNY's Offices of Government Affairs and Marketing, Policy, and Student
Financial Aid to provide guidance to campuses related to the restoration of Pell and TAP grants for incarcerated individuals, and create responsive strategies and solutions to anticipated legislative policy related to prison education
Support projects that identify and reduce barriers in the admissions and transfer processes for formerly incarcerated individuals to ensure full access to SUNY's varied education and training programs.
Participate in annual convenings and conferences to promote information exchange and shared learning.
Participate regularly in statewide and national conversations related to the future of higher education in prison
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Requirements:
Required Education/Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree
Higher Education administration experience
5+ years of progressively more complex related technical and managerial experience
Detail-orientation and capacity to multitask
Strong people and project management skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations
Ability to play a strong supporting role within an organization

Preferred Education/Qualifications:

Master's Degree in public policy, social work, human services, leadership, or related field
Experience working with the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision and/or Re-entry organizations
Experience overseeing, designing, and implementing programming and planning strategies to support students in prison and during re-entry

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $90,000-$100,000
